Office 2013 SP1 fixes annoying UISuppressionMode bug for Lync

Good News for Lync Developers!

Office 2013 SP1 is out, and with it comes a fix to an annoying bug.

The full list of fixes is on this Excel speadsheet, but the one I noticed was this one:

When the Lync client is used by a 3rd party application as an out-of-proc COM server showing no Lync UI (“UI suppression mode”), the Lync process does not exit after the app is closed.

If this is what I think it is, it’s a welcome fix for a common problem.

UISuppressionMode is used when replacing the Lync Client with full-screen applications which provide a immersive experience. The Lync.exe process not terminating has been a common issue, and one which in the past we’ve had to solve by checking for and then killing the process. If this has now been sorted out, that’s great.

There’s a bunch of other changes to the other Office products, including a SP for Sharepoint. For the Exchange guys, there’s an SP1 for you too – there’s a good TechNet blog detailing the changes in Exchange Server SP1.
