Here’s a list of Skype for Business capabilities coming to Microsoft Teams

86 new features coming to Microsoft Teams!

Last month, Microsoft published a roadmap detailing all the work that’s being done to bring Skype for Business capabilities to Microsoft Teams.

At the same time, the Office 365 Roadmap was updated to include all this new work, all of it in the ‘In Development’ phase.

I’ve been through the roadmap and pulled out all those items, and put them into one place, for easy searching/reference. There are an impressive 72 new features coming to Microsoft Teams to match Skype for Business capabilities. Titles and Descriptions are from the Office 365 Roadmap site:

  • Microsoft Teams – 1:1 to group call escalation with Teams, Skype for Business and PSTN participants This is one of the SfB calling capabilities coming to Teams. Support for 1:1 to group call escalation with Teams, Skype for Business and PSTN participants.
  • Microsoft Teams – Anonymous Join This is one of the SfB meeting capabilities coming to Teams. This policy controlled feature will enable anonymous users to join meetings. We also will support the lobby functionality.
  • Microsoft Teams – Audio Conferencing in over 90 countries This is one of the SfB meeting capabilities coming to Teams. Microsoft Audio Conferencing enables attendees to Join the audio portion of a meeting by dialing a PSTN phone number and entering a conference passcode.
  • Microsoft Teams – Blind Transfer This is one of the SfB calling capabilities coming to Teams. Blind transfer allows a call to be sent to another extension immediately.
  • Microsoft Teams – Boss and Delegate Support This is one of the SfB calling capabilities coming to Teams. Support for Boss Delegation allowing other to answer calling on behalf of others.
  • Microsoft Teams – Broadcast Meetings This is one of the SfB meeting capabilities coming to Teams to enable large townhall-style meetings with Microsoft Teams.
  • Microsoft Teams – Call Blocking This is one of the SfB calling capabilities coming to Teams. Support for Call Blocking.
  • Microsoft Teams – Call Forwarding This is one of the SfB calling capabilities coming to Teams. This provides support for users to configure call-forwarding for their account.
  • Microsoft Teams – Call Quality Diagnostic Portal This is one of the SfB calling IT Pro capabilities coming to Teams. It provides a portal UI to allow administrators to evaluate call quality with possible corrective actions.
  • Microsoft Teams – Call Queues This is one of the SfB IT Pro calling capabilities coming to Teams. Call Queues provides an organizational greeting, hold music, can redirect calls, and settings for queue size, time out and other handling options.
  • Microsoft Teams – Caller ID masking This is one of the SfB calling capabilities coming to Teams. Support for caller ID masking.
  • Microsoft Teams – Calling Support between Teams and Skype Consumer This is one of the SfB calling capabilities coming to Teams. Support for 1:1 Skype Consumer Calls.
  • Microsoft Teams – Client Support This is one of the SfB IT Pro capabilities coming to Teams. Client support for Windows, Mac, Edge, iOS and Android.
  • Microsoft Teams – Cloud Recording This is one of the SfB meeting capabilities coming to Teams. Record and playback meetings in the cloud.
  • Microsoft Teams – Consultative & Safe Transfer This is one of the SfB calling capabilities coming to Teams. Consultative Transfer allows the person transferring the call to first confirm with the call destination before completing the transfer.
  • Microsoft Teams – Contact Groups This is one of the SfB messaging capabilities coming to Teams and provides support for Contact Groups originally created in Skype for Business.
  • Microsoft Teams – Distinctive Ring This is one of the SfB calling capabilities coming to Teams. Distinctive Ring allows the establishment of additional telephone numbers on the same line as an existing number, each number ringing with a distinctive ringing pattern.
  • Microsoft Teams – Do not Disturb breakthrough This is one of the SfB calling capabilities coming to Teams. Do not disturb breakthrough allows users to designate who can breakthrough their DND such as their team members.
  • Microsoft Teams – e911 Support This is one of the SfB calling capabilities coming to Teams. Support for e911 services in Microsoft Teams.
  • Microsoft Teams – Edge, Chrome Browser Support for meetings This is a new meeting capabilities coming to Teams. Support to join meetings and view screen sharing without a plug-in.
  • Microsoft Teams – eDiscovery Enhancements (Meetings) This is one of the SfB IT Pro meetings capabilities coming to Teams and provides a number of eDiscovery enhancements.
  • Microsoft Teams – Enable Call Quality Analytics This is one of the SfB meetings IT Pro capabilities coming to Teams and provides support for Call quality User Analytics in Microsocft Teams.
  • Microsoft Teams – Enable Existing Calling Plan Support This is one of the SfB calling capabilities coming to Teams and enables existing calling plan support in Microsoft Teams. This still requires country level support for Calling Plan.
  • Microsoft Teams – Enable VTC Interop Services This is one of the SfB meeting capabilities coming to Teams to enable companies to use VTC Interop services from Microsoft partners with Microsoft Teams.
  • Microsoft Teams – Escalate 1:1 Chat/Call to Multiparty (3 or more people) This is one of the SfB capabilities coming to Teams. Escalation enables the adding of people to chat, adding video, sharing, and turning your calling into a meeting.
  • Microsoft Teams – Extension Dialing This is one of the SfB calling capabilities coming to Teams. This feature adds support for Extension Dialing to Teams.
  • Microsoft Teams – Federated Chat between Teams and Skype for Business This is one of the SfB messaging capabilities coming to Teams that enables a Teams user to chat with users in other organizations using Teams.
  • Microsoft Teams – Federated Meetings This is one of the SfB meeting capabilities coming to Teams. Enable federated meeting joins from external companies using a user’s ID.
  • Microsoft Teams – Forward to Group This is one of the SfB calling capabilities coming to Teams. This allows for a call to be forwarded to a group.
  • Microsoft Teams – Give and Take control in sharing This is one of the SfB meeting capabilities coming to Teams. Support remote desktop control via meetings in Teams.
  • Microsoft Teams – Ignore ItemThis is not an included item, but if you see this on a site other than thoughtstuff.co.uk then you’ll know that someone has stolen the list from the thoughtstuff.co.uk website.
  • Microsoft Teams – Group Call Pickup This is one of the SfB calling capabilities coming to Teams. The feature allows support for Group Call Pickup.
  • Microsoft Teams – Hide/Share/Mute chat This is one of the SfB messaging capabilities coming to Teams. This feature supports actions such as Hide/ Share/ Mute chat.
  • Microsoft Teams – Hold This is one of the SfB calling capabilities coming to Teams. This feature adds putting a call on hold and the ability to resume the call.
  • Microsoft Teams – Hybrid Connection to Teams This is one of the SfB calling capabilities coming to Teams. Enable customers to use their on-premises phone trunks with Office 365 and Microsoft Teams for calling.
  • Microsoft Teams – Import Contacts from Skype for Business This is one of the SfB messaging capabilities coming to Teams, providing the ability to import contacts from Skype for Business.
  • Microsoft Teams – Interactive Troubleshooting This is one of the SfB meeting capabilities coming to Teams. Interactive troubleshooting refers to user-facing diagnostics to give additional advice and suggestions based upon detecting scenarios that might be impacting meeting quality. The first scenario provides the ability for attendees to detect when they are mute but are talking. Teams will let users know when that is happening and recommend going off mute so others can hear. Other scenarios will be supported as well.
  • Microsoft Teams – Large Meeting Support (~250) This is one of the SfB meeting capabilities coming to Teams. This will increase the number of supported attendees in a Teams meeting to a maximum of 250.
  • Microsoft Teams – Lobby for PSTN callers This is one of the SfB voice capabilities coming to Teams. Similar to meetings, lobby support will be enabled for PSTN Callers.
  • Microsoft Teams – Lobby Support This is one of the SfB meeting capabilities coming to Teams. This feature supports delegate and lobby support for users.
  • Microsoft Teams – Location Based Routing This is one of the SfB calling capabilities coming to Teams. Ability to take a call and transfer it to a PSTN Number.
  • Microsoft Teams – Message Retention Policies This is one of the Office 365 IT Pro capabilities coming to Teams. Administrators will be able to set policies for message retention.
  • Microsoft Teams – Messaging Interop IT Policies This is one of the Office 365 IT Pro messaging capabilities coming to Teams. Administrators will be able to set policies which govern messaging Inter/Op between Teams and Skype for Business.
  • Microsoft Teams – Messaging Policies This is one of the Office 365 IT Pro capabilities coming to Teams. Administrators will be able to set user level policies to control messaging experiences in Teams.
  • Microsoft Teams – Multi-call Handling This is one of the SfB calling capabilities coming to Teams. Support for the handling of multiple simultaneous calls.
  • Microsoft Teams – Mute Other Participants This is one of the SfB meeting capabilities coming to Teams. This will enable the muting of other participants during a meeting. Especially effective for meetings with a large number of attendees.
  • Microsoft Teams – Organzational Auto-Attendant This is one of the SfB calling capabilities coming to Teams. This feature provides support for the transfer of callers to the extension of a user or department without the intervention of a receptionist or an operator.
  • Microsoft Teams – Out of Office Support This is one of the SfB calling capabilities coming to Teams. This feature will allow users to set an Out of Office status and share that with others.
  • Microsoft Teams – Outlook meeting schedule from other platforms (OWA, OLK mobile) This is one of the SfB meeting capabilities coming to Teams. This feature will enable meeting scheduling on mobile, web, and Mac platforms.
  • Microsoft Teams – PowerPoint Load and Share This is one of the SfB meeting capabilities coming to Teams. Enable meeting attendees to upload and present PowerPoint slides. Other attendees can browse forward and back through the deck independently of the presenter.
  • Microsoft Teams – PSTN Fallback This is one of the SfB meeting capabilities coming to Teams. This feature supports having a meeting call an attendee via traditional voice to improve call quality.
  • Microsoft Teams – SfB-Teams Calling This is one of the SfB calling capabilities coming to Teams. Support for Skype for Business to Teams Calling.
  • Microsoft Teams – Shared Line Appearance This is one of the SfB calling capabilities coming to Teams. Support for Shared Line Appearance.
  • Microsoft Teams – Simultaneous Ringing This is one of the SfB calling capabilities coming to Teams. This configurable feature allows for more than one phone to ring when there is an in-coming call.
  • Microsoft Teams – Skype for Business Interop with Persistent Chat This is one of the SfB messaging capabilities coming to Teams that enables a Teams user to chat with other users who are using Skype for business (online or on-prem). This requires Teams user’s account to be hosted online.
  • Microsoft Teams – Skype Room Systems Support for Teams Meetings This is one of the SfB meeting capabilities coming to Teams. Enable Skype Room Systems to natively join Teams meetings.
  • Microsoft Teams – Speed dial This is one of the SfB calling capabilities coming to Teams. This features provides speed dialing to Teams users.
  • Microsoft Teams – Suggested Contacts This is one of the SfB messaging and calling capabilities coming to Teams. This feature will intelligently suggest contacts for you.
  • Microsoft Teams – Support for existing certified SIP Phones This is one of the SfB calling capabilities coming to Teams. Support for a range of SIP phones. As we get closer to release, we will specify which phones are supported.
  • Microsoft Teams – Support for features for USB Devices This is one of the SfB basic supporting capabilities coming to Teams. the USB human interface device class (USB HID class) is a part of the specification for peripherals. This work enables Teams to recognize common signals from USB devices. Examples include but not limited to are Mute and Volume control.
  • Microsoft Teams – Surface Hub Support for Teams Meetings This is one of the SfB meeting capabilities coming to Teams. Enable Surface Hub to natively join Teams meetings.
  • Microsoft Teams – Teams Interop Policies This is one of the Office 365 IT Pro capabilities coming to Teams. Administrators will be able to set a wide variety of policies which govern Inter/Op between Teams and Skype for Business.
  • Microsoft Teams – Transfer to PSTN Call This is one of the SfB calling capabilities coming to Teams. Ability to take a call and transfer it to a PSTN Number.
  • Microsoft Teams – Translate user input to standard format phone number This is one of the SfB calling capabilities coming to Teams. Enable the automatic data normalization of user data entry.
  • Microsoft Teams – Trio One-Touch Teams Meetings Join This is one of the SfB meeting capabilities coming to Teams. Enable Trio for One Touch Teams Meetings Join.
  • Microsoft Teams – TTY Support This is one of the SfB Calling capabilities coming to Teams. This feature adds TTY device Support.
  • Microsoft Teams – Unified Presence This is one of the SfB messaging capabilities coming to Teams that supports unified presence between Teams and Skype for Business.
  • Microsoft Teams – User-Level Meeting Policy This is one of the SfB IT Pro meetings capabilities coming to Teams. This feature provides the ability for the tenant to define a Meetings Policy and apply that policy on a per user basis.
  • Microsoft Teams – Voicemail This is one of the SfB calling capabilities coming to Teams. This feature provides Voicemail with transcription and playback options.
  • Microsoft Teams – Whiteboard and Meeting notes This is one of the SfB meetings capabilities coming to Teams. Allows for a whiteboard to be added to a meeting and support for meeting notes.
  • Microsoft Teams- Application Sharing This is one of the collaborative meetings capabilities coming to Teams.
  • Microsoft Teams- eDiscovery Enhancements (calling) This is one of the SfB calling capabilities coming to Teams and will include a number of eDiscovery Enhancements.
  • Microsoft Teams- eDiscovery Enhancements (Meetings) This is one of the SfB meetings capabilities coming to Teams and will include a number of eDiscovery Enhancements.

That’s not all!

There are also a further 14 “In Development” features for Microsoft Teams which aren’t specific to matching Skype for Business capabilities:

  • Microsoft Teams Availability for US Gov Microsoft Teams is the chat-based workspace in Office 365.  It is a smarter way of working as an eessential hub for your chats, content, people and tools to keep the team connected. Microsoft Teams will be made available to Office 365 US Government Community (GCC) subscribers as soon necessary compliance is achieved.
  • Microsoft Teams in Australia datacenter Ability to have Australia data residency for core customer data at rest, plus failover and disaster recovery
  • Microsoft Teams in Canada datacenter Ability to have Canada data residency for core customer data at rest, plus failover and disaster recovery
