Register now for: New Instructor-led training for Microsoft Teams
Designed to help you with the adoption of Microsoft Teams, Microsoft has just made available a comprehensive collection of instructor-led online training classes:
The first four tiles (#ThisIsTeams, Getting Started, Manage your upgrade and Switch from Skype for Business) link to registration pages for a number of webinars happening throughout October. These are instructor-led sessions so you (and your users) will benefit from being taken through Teams functionality by an expert. They are available on a number of different dates and at different times so you can sign up to the most convenient session.
The fifth tile links to a load of on-demand end-user training videos, PDFs and articles.
Finally, the sixth tile (bottom right) is specific to Education and links to no fewer than 15 sessions dedicated to using Teams in an educational setting:
There’s also a selection of videos from institutions using Teams today.
In total, there are 30+ instructor-led training sessions you can sign up to, plus 20+ videos to watch and a number of other assets like documents, articles, blog posts etc. However you like to learn, there’s definitely something for you, and for your users, here.
Why is this important?
Clearly, Microsoft are putting a lot of effort into creating spaces where people can learn how to use Microsoft Teams, and explore all it has to offer. But why? Karuana Gatimu is the Principal PM Manager, Customer Insights & Outreach, for Microsoft Teams. Her job (together with her team) includes customer outreach and training, as well as making sure that the ‘voice of the customer’ is heard throughout as Microsoft Teams evolves.
“The most effective on-boarding is an interactive one.” she told me. “Getting familiar with Microsoft Teams is best done in an instructor-led environment where people can learn the basics, then learn the skills to truly design their hub for teamwork using additional features. Once they’ve gained that familiarity they can then move to specific task-oriented training that can be delivered on demand.”
The idea is that these instructor-led sessions can walk people through what’s possible and give them the confidence to go and discover how Microsoft Teams can be used in their organisation.
Karuana and her team have plans to continue adding to the number and scope of webcasts they produce, including specific content for those using Teams in environments such as Government or Non-Profit, as well as guidance for workloads like Security & Compliance, User Adoption etc.
Just Getting Started
This appears to just be the start of a complete transformation of how Microsoft approaches adoption guidance in Office 365. Later this month, Microsoft will launch an Office 365 & Microsoft Teams adoption hub that will simplify and centralize all the adoption, awareness and training materials on offer. This will include a Custom Learning for Office 365 site template that customers can download, install on their SharePoint online tenant and then customize based on what services they are currently using. This modern communication site, with a playlist like interface, streams content directly from Microsoft so the task-based training will always be up to date.
