Skype for Business Online will no longer be included in Office 365 for new customers

Skype for Business Online will no longer be included in Office 365 for new customers

New announcement in Microsoft Support:

Microsoft Teams now the primary client for meetings and calling in Office 365

Starting Oct. 1, 2018, Skype for Business online will no longer be included in Office 365 for new customers with fewer than 500 seats

We recently announced that the roadmap for bringing Skype for Business Online features and functionality into Microsoft Teams is now complete. Teams is now delivers a complete set of messaging, meeting, and calling capabilities.

Beginning October 1, 2018, Skype for Business online will no longer be included in Office 365 for new customers with fewer than 500 seats. Tenants that are already using Skype for Business online will be able to continue doing so (including provisioning new users) until they complete their transition to Microsoft Teams.

Some things to point out:

  • It’s been clear for some time that Microsoft Teams has been the primary choice for many organisations.
  • The smaller the org, the less likely they are to have protracted deployment cycles and training plans. Therefore, having a user limit makes sense.
  • If you already have and use Skype for Business Online, nothing will change. This is for new customers only.
  • You still have 6 days to sign up and start using Skype for Business Online.
