WordPress on 1and1 – 500 errors etc

If you’re using WordPress on 1and1.co.uk then you may find that WordPress isn’t quite as fluid as you’d been promised. Random 500 errors, plugins not upgrading, installing, deleting properly, that sort of thing.

There is something you can do! With many, many thanks to this poster for documenting the issue, this is worth a try:

Find your .HTACCESS file on your server. It is a hidden file so make sure your FTP client can view hidden files. Open up the file in your text editor and add the following line after the # END WORDPRESS.

AddType x-mapp-php5 .php

Then try again. Hopefully things will be a little smoother for you.
