Skype Developer Platform Compatibility Matrix (Supported Topologies)
The Skype Developer Platform landing page on MSDN got updated today with a new table showing what technologies were available on what platform. This isn’t new news, it was covered in slides at both Build and Ignite recently, but it’s great to have it published somewhere official. This is the full supported list today:
APIs | Lync 2013 | Skype for Business | Skype for Business Online |
Skype Web SDK | Basic | Yes | No |
UCMA (Unified Communications Managed API) | Yes | Yes | No |
UCWA (Unified Communications Web API) | Yes | Yes | No |
Lync Server 2013 SDK | Yes | Yes | No |
Lync (Client) 2013 SDK | Yes | Yes | Yes |
Lync Server 2013 Persistent Chat SDK | Yes | Yes | No |
Skype Consumer (Normal Skype)
I’ve been hearing this question a lot recently. Are these technologies available for Skype Consumer? Right now, the answer is no – everything in the table above is just for Skype for Business.
However, there are things you can do if you want to develop against Skype Consumer. Have a look at the Skype Call button and the Skype URIs that allow you to automate calling the Skype application on mobile devices.
